ACCA MID-YEAR SEMINAR 2017 (post-event)
The recent Mid-Year Seminar held in Adelaide from 1-2 June 2017 underwent specific changes to enable a greater level of operational, client services and sales focus. The seminar included more working groups during each session, allowing delegates to share their ideas, challenges and solutions with each other and really expand on each of the topics being presented. Several methods were incorporated into the program to stimulate team-work thought processes and a significant amount of sharing and examination of ideas was accomplished.
Operational staff needs were addressed with a dedicated outdoor session exploring cemetery equipment in action, learning about how machinery and equipment works in order to develop a keener working understanding for staff in cemeteries. Non-operational staff also gained an insight into machinery and technical apparatus, with a tour of a working cremator providing comprehension of the processes and procedures operational staff undertake.
Feedback received so far has been that delegates valued the opportunity to hear from industry peers and then follow up with group activities where they could expand on what they had learned and put it into the context of their everyday activities.
One of the major learning outcomes that delegates will take home and implement is social media and the tailored activities to expand the awareness of their services in a positive light. A workshop was conducted were delegates learned the do’s and don’ts of social media and specific ways to implement constructive initiatives that will help to educate and serve their communities. The importance of implementing a cemetery management system was also presented and delegates found this particularly helpful in gathering an in-depth understanding on the capabilities of a CMS. Techniques to improve staff morale and improving internal communications was also thoroughly explored, while the drone information session and demonstration provided delegates the opportunity to see first-hand the possibilities that this technology can provide to a cemetery environment.
